  24 Oct 1849; Deeds in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, NY show John Tyson Joy from Ruselltown, Canada East, purchased from Juleus Bailey of Potsdam, a piece of land containing 3/4 of an acre and is located in lot number 14. He paid $700 for this property. A further discription of the land "Beginning at the intersection of the North line of the Buck Road with the west line of the road leading from Canton to Norfolk." (St. Lawrence Co. deeds; Vol 41C, pg 540; FHL film #877,245)
  Deed in Potsdam, dated 14 March 1856, "an indenture between John T. Joy and Sarah his wife, both of Potdam, St. Lawrence NY and Edgar A. Howe of Hopkinton in said County, for the sum of $1000" for the above described land in Petersham. Deed is signed by John T. Joy and Sarah M. Joy and is witnessed by Amos Blood, Justice of the Peace. (Amos Blood is brother of Almira (Blood) Joy.

Joy, age 7, son in good health, born in Ohio Declaration for dependent parents pension under the act of Jun 27, 1890 State of Ohio, County of Williams, on this 9 day of July A.D. 1890, personally appeared before me, a clerk of the courts, within and for the County and State aforesaid John T. Joy Sr. aged 76 years, a resident of Pioneer, County of Williams, State of Ohio, who being duly sworn by law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the Pension provided by the act of Congress approved June 27, 1890. That he is the father of John T. Joy Jr. who enlisted under the name of John T. Joy Jr. at ......on the 14 day of October, 1861 as a private in Co. "K", 68th Regiment, Ohio Infantry Vol. during the war of the rebellion and who died at St. Louis, MO on the 7th day of March 1862, from the effects of measles incurred in aforesaid service. That the soldier died leaving no widow nor child under the age of sixteen surviving him; that he (John T. Joy) married the mother of said soldier at Thompson CT on the 29 day of March. The mother of said soldier died on the 1st day of January 1851 at St Lawrence, New York; that he is now without other present means of support than his own manuel labor, or the contributions of others not bound for his support; that he has formerly applied for a pension. The number of his application is 320758; that he hereby appoints J.C. DePutron, of Washington D.C. his true and lawful attorny with full power of substitution and revocation, to prosecute this claim; that his post office address is Pioneer, County of Williams, State of Ohio.
