 Record reads "MARY Ann Joy of Norwich md. Daniel R. Darby, 14 Nov 1843, by Rev, Sanford Benton" in New London, New London, CT. Vol 4, pg 110
  Questions:
 Why was she called Mary Ann instead of Emily Ann?
 Why was she called "of Norwich"? Why was she married in New London? Is there a relationship to the Williams Joy family living in Norwich? NOTE: Married the same day, Zalmon Price of Norwich and Elizabeth Harrington
 of Thompson. Elizabeth Price gave an affidavit as to the marriage of Daniel
 Darby and Emily Ann Joy in the Civil War Pension Application submitted by Emily A. Darby.

  DEATH: Civil War Pension Application submitted by Emily Ann (Joy) Darby, widow of Daniel R. Darby gives her death date but not death place. She was last to be know living with her daughter, Mable Whipple, in Toledo, Lucas, Ohio She is buried in the Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer, Ohio in the same lot as her brother George Rawson Joy and his family. The grave site was visited by Jane Anderson, Stryker, Ohio at my request.

  !Affidavit dated 18 Mar 1892
 In the Matter of Pension claim #385,763 of Emily A. Darby, widow of Da'l R. Darby of Co. "G" 18th Ct Reg't on this 10 day of Mar 1892, personally appeared before me an officer in and for the herinafter named couny and state, duly authorized to administer owths. Emily A. Darby, age 67 years, a resident of Toledo, in the County of Lucas and State of Ohio, whose post office address is, 543 Vance St., well known to me to be ruputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
 "I, the above named claymant (sic) Emily A. Darby, do hereby declare that I have not been married previously to the marriage of my late husband, Daniel R. Darby"

  Another Affidavit dated 29 Oct 1891
 ....personaly appeared before the undersigned....Mrs Elizabeth Price, age 72 years, whose P.O. is Norwich, County of New London, State of Conn....states as follows..."That she is well acquainted with the applicant Emily A. Darby and was present at her marriage in New London, Conn. Nov 14, 1843, her maiden name being Emily A. Joy and the name of husband was Daniel R. Darby. The reason I know so well is that I was married at the same time by the same clergyman. Signed by Elisabeth Price.
  Affidavits on the same page by Mary A. Perkins and John T. Joy, dated 21st Mar 1892.
 John T. Joy, age 77 years, a resident of Pioneer, Williams, Ohio and Mary A. Perkins, age 81 years, a resident of Pioneer, Williams, Ohio
  John T. Joy states "That the claimant, Emily A. Darby was not married before her marriage with Daniel R. Darby and she has not remarried since the death of her husband, Daniel R. Darby. My knowledge of the facts were obtained by being acquainted with her before and since her marriage with Daniel R. Darby and seeing her occasionly and visiting with her."
  Mary A. Perkins states "I, Mary A. Perkins certify that the claimant lived with me before her marriage to Daniel R. Darby and I know she was not married before and I further certify that the claimant, Emily A. Darby has never remarried and is living a widow at this time and is nearly helpless. I know
 these facts by being for years acquainted with her and visiting with her often and talking with her concerning her welfare."
  Affidavit by G. R. Joy dated 16 Mar 1891
 ...personally appeared George R. Joy, age 71 years of Pioneer, Williams, Ohio states " I knew this claimants husband Danl R. Darby for at least fifteen years previous to his enlistment in the United States Service and he was to all appearances and in my opinion a sound able bodied man. I did not see him after his discharge from the said United States service but I am credibly informed that after his return from service that he suffered from chronic diarrhea and also am credibly informed that the said diarrhea was one of the principal causes of his death."
  Affidavit dated 5 May 1897
 ...personally appeared Mabel N. Whipple, age 39, whose P.O. address is 1811
 Michigan, Toledo, Lucas, Ohio states "I am the daughter of said Emily A.Darby, wid of Daniel R. Darby and can truthfully state that she has never remarried since the death of her husband Daniel R. Darby, she having been a member of my family for the past sixteen years, the last nine of which she has been an invalid unable to walk and cannot get around only with an invalids chair. She is also unable to use her hands in any way to earn her own living and all most to do any thing for herself."
