Note: 1,027,459. "Item: I give to Sophie Munyan, daughter of Mary Joy, one good milch (sic) cow." Extensive research on the Munyan family has not been productive in finding out what happened to Sophie Munyan or Joy. This research is still ongoing. In the sketch of the life of George Rawson Joy, it says that Elias and Mary (Wakefield) Joy had eight children, so it appears that she is counted as one of them as no other known child has been discovered at this time. No other record has been found for this child. If Sophie was born about 1800 she would have been about 17 years of age when her grandfather included her in his will. She could have been a young bride who he wanted to leave something to and "a good milch cow" was no small thing in those days. It is also possible that her mother had married one of the many Munyans who were their near neighbors and friends and was left a young widow with a young daughter and she later married Elias Joy. However, on 23 Dec 1801, a Mary Wakefield witnessed a deed from her father, John Wakefield, to her brother, Moses Wakefield and again on 27 Jan 1802, was witness to a deed as Mary Wakefield. As I am not aware of any other Mary Wakefield at that time in Thompson, CT. it seems that she was not married until after the 27 Jan 1802.
