Note: hose his legal guardian in Thompson he would have been at least 14 years of age. Document reads as follows: Windham Co. Thompson Novr the 2nd 1789; This may certify the Hon. Judge of Probates for the District of Pomfret that Willard Joy (minor) personally appeared and made choice of Samuel Joslin for his guardian: before me Thomas Dike Justice of Peace. No relationship between Samuel Joslin and Willard Joy has yet been found. MARRIAGE: Glouster, Providence, Rhode Island Vital Records; FHL Film #941,851 If the birth year is correct and the marriage date is also correct, then Willard would have been only about 16 or 17 when he married. We believe that there was a transcription error and that Willard and Lavina were married 24 Jan 1791instead of the date given in the record. DEATH: Last record in Sanford, New York 1850 Census; age 74, living with his son Daniel Joy and his family. 1790, Jan 5: Chose Samuel Joslin as his legal guardian in Thompson, Windham, Connecticut. This is probably a transcription error and should read 1797 when he reached legal age of 21. Their first child, son Thomas, was born c1798 in Rhode Island. 1798, April 12: Bought and sold land in Whitingham, Windham, Vermont to David Wilson of Thompson, Windham, Connecticut. His Grandmother, Priscilla Wilder and her son Moses Wilder were living in Whitingham at this time. 1800: U.S. Census; Johnston, Providence, Rhode Island; FHL film #218,680; pg 390 1800: 19 Aug; Willard Joy witnessed a deed in Stowe Vt. between Elias Joy and Elias Wilder. 1800: 20 Feb; Willard Joy and Elias Joy both of Gloucester, Rhode Island, contracted an indenture of lease on a parcel of land in Stowe, VT. NOTE: The Mary Robins (wife of Solomon Robins) living between Daniel Joy and Thomas Joy in Sandford, Broome Co. NY 1850 Census, may also be a daughter of Willard and Lavina Joy. She was 36 years old and born in Connecticut. Also living in Broome Co. New York at about the same time is the family of Thomas and Mary (Joy) West.
