Note: N15 Mother died when he was four, and they moved to Livermore from S. Dakota where he lived with the Callahan family and attended a country school and Humboldt College.

He and his uncle Matt Callahan opened a Sinclair gas station on Main Street in 1925. He operated a tank wagon for five years and then devoted his time to operating the gas station and completing 56 years of service, retiring in 1981.
