  (124) p27: "...removed to Scotland parish, now Scotland township, Windham
 County, CT, in 1743, purchasing lands there 24 March 1642/3...Joseph Lassell,
 of Windham, 24 March 1743, conveyed to "John Baker of Barnstable, in the county of Barnstable and Province of Massachusetts Bay in New England," 260 acres of land...an adjoining tract of ten acres was conveyed by James Lassell, 10 June 1746 to Samuel Baker and John Baker, Jr....Samuel Baker, 5 April, 1749, conveyed his share of the ten acres to John Baker, Jr....25 April 1748, John Baker conveyed a portion of his lands, in consideration of love and affection to each of his sons, Samuel and John, Jr. As he was then 76 years old, it is evident he was dividing his lands between his sons...his tombstone in the old burying ground in Scotland, CT, bears this inscription: "In memory of Dn. John Baker, who having served God & his generation faithfully fell on sleep January 27th, 1763, in ye 91st year of his age. He was for many years Deacon of ye West Church in Barnstable; blessed with distinguished natural and acquired endowments & both adorned with an exemplary christian temper & walk. Ye memory of ye just is precious"..."
