I received this book today I paid $15 for this copy I'd like someone to have.. There is very little in it about John and Mahala as not much was known about them or the ancestors but I will quote what is written from this book.
. He, with his wife Mahala came from NY State to MI> probably around 1852. John lived in Wheatfiled twp. MI. He must have been born about 1810 as the headstone in spaulding Cemetry, where he and his wife Mahala are buried, gives his age as "53 uears, 11 months, 6 days." and date of death February 6, 1864. the Spaulding Cemetery is located at the intersection of Waldo and Zimmer Roads in Mason, MI. He was married to Mahala T Palmer, date unknown. Her birthdate is unclear on the Spaulding Cemetery headstone. She died Dec. 23, 1863 and her headstone gives her age as "48 years, 3 months 15 days. " Probably June 6, 1815
"John Pollok (1810-1864) was the Father of Myron James Pollock. He was born in South Kingston, Washington, County Rhode Island. He came to Wheatfiled Mich. with his wife Mahala Palmer when Myron was 17. They are buried in the Spaulding Cemetery."
I just received new Pictures of the tombstone and Pollok school, I'd like to give any one I put on floppy disc.
I can't believe what I just discovered today. Another question answered.
Jeremiah Wilson Pollock father of John Pollok lived in Sodus NY in 1820 when John was born and was 10 years old in the census. Shows when he was in NY and not living in RI or CT. and not yet murdered in CT.
On the same census on the same page I found Joshua Palmer and his family listed. John and Mahala met in Soduas and married and had their children there before traveling to MI when Myron was 17.
This shows me at least that they lived nearby to each other and John and Mahala may have grown up together.
There is also a George Palmer listed just above Joshua Palmer. Perhaps a Father of Joshua or a brother.. Interesting.
Note: John Pollok changed the last name to Pollok instead of Pollock as the ancestors had Spelle
