Notes
a. Note:   The reference cited contains much on this man, some of it fact and some family tradition. He came to America in 1704 and went quickly to Rehoboth, Massachusetts where he married Ester Willmarth. They reared a family of six children, one being Margaret who married David Perry.
Family tradition says he was captured as a young man in London and forced to work on a British Man of War. (No proof of this exists.) After cruising for a year or two, they stopped in Boston, Massachusetts where he jumped ship and headed inland and settled in Rehoboth. He died at age 100 and 6 months after having fallen out of a horse carriage.
His obituaries say that he was a native of Taunton, England, and that he had been in America about 80 years.
The author of the cited reference accumulated enough collateral facts to believe the family's original name was Van Drier and came from Holland. It appears he came from a long line of master weavers although his father was a locksmith and gunsmith.
The author also belive immigrant William, was the son of his father, William, and his third wife, Elizabeth Jones. The LDS genealogy line gives Ann Locke as his mother. The marriage date of William Sr. with Ann Locke is a matter of record and occurred on August 23, 1685.
It would probably have been better to say he was born in 1685 or 1686 since his death date of December 18, 1784 is known and his obituary says he died in his 100th year. His mother and father were married September 11, 1685.
