  Will of Thomas Davis, Surry County Virginia page 369-371, Will book I
  In the name of God amen, I Thomas Davis of Surry County being very sick and weak but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testement in manner and form following:
  Item one: I give and bequeath unto my son Edwin Davis and his heirs forever one feather bed and furniture formerly called Edwin's bed, one gun, one Pewter dish and one Bason that I have hertofore (lent?) him and one (Home?)
  Item two: After all my just and lawful debts are paid I lend unto my wife, Martha Davis, my land and plantation whereon I now live and all that my remain of estate of every kind and demonination during her natural life or Widowhood, at expiration of which time I give and bequeath unto my son, Littleberry Davis to his heirs forever one half of my land together with the plantation wheron I now live, to be divided as follows: beginning at a red crooked Oak (a line between my land and James Davis' land) from thence direct westward to a cluster of poplars on the side of the path from the main road to Ann Bell's from thence straight ot Lazy Hill branch.
  Item, I also give and bequeath to my son Edwin Davis and to his heirs forever, the other half of my land commonly called Lazy Hill which lies North from the above line to be made from the crooked red Oak to the biggest poplar of said cluster above mentioned.
  Item (? ) And lastly I nominate and appoint my son Edwin Davis, Joseph Davis and James L. Bell my executors of this my last Will and Testement. In witness therof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine.

  At a court held for Surry County, January the 28th, 1800
 The within written last Will and Testement of Thomas Davis deceased was presented in Court by Joseph Davis and James L. Bell ___ of the executors therein named and the same being proved by the oaths of James Gwaltney and Polly Gwaltney two of the will makers thereto was by the Court ordered to be recorded And in the motion of the said Executors who made oath and gave __bond with Joel Thompson and (illegible: tooney Siefson?) their securities in the final sum of five hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, and liberty, is reserved the other Execution to qualify when he may think fit.
