Crown Hill website explanation for listing Cass Peterson in the National Cemetery, Confederate Soldier's Lot: "The remains of 1,616 Confederate prisoners of war who died at Camp Morton in Indpls during the Civil War were originally buried in Greenlaw Cemetery. In 1931,their remains were reburied in Crown Hill. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has records for only 957."
Notes from a conversation with Harold, Cass's son:
Cass fought in the Civil War battle at Chicamauga. The mule he was riding was shot from under him and in falling he put his saber through his leg. [Since the Battle of Chicamauga was fought Sept 19-20, 1863,and though Cass enlisted in Aug but wasn't mustered until Oct, and further that his service record of engagements doesn't start until Dec., this memory must be in error.]

  History note:
The stretch of railroad between Indianapolis and Union City, Indiana (now part of the CSX System) is the oldest part of what was once the "Big Four" railroad system. it was originally built under the name of the Indianapolis and Bellefontaine Railroad because it connected at Union City, Indiana with a line to Bellefontaine. Initially chartered in 1848, the Bellefontaine consolidated with the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Indianapolis Railway, better known as the "Bee Line". The "Bee Line" consolidated with two other railroad systems (the Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad) and the (Chicago, indianapolis and St. Louis) in 1889 forming the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad, popularly known as the "Big Four". As envisioned by the early builders of the Bellefontaine, this railroad was to become a link in the chain of roads that would connect St. Louis, Indianapolis, Sandusky and Cleveland, Ohio with the east.  Location 2: r 426 Fourth avenue, Moline, IL; Occupation: laborer
Business Name: Moline Plow Works [John Deere can certainly takecredit for putting Moline, Illinois, on the map. In fact, his famedinvention would earn Moline the nickname of "Plow City." The GilpinSulky Plow was not the first successful sulky design, but it becameone of the most popular in the country by 1880. In fact, the MolinePlow Works factory could hardly keep up with orders, despite havingreached annual production of 75,000 plows in 1876. By the 1880s, theJohn Deere Plow Company employed almost 800 men in its Moline PlowWorks factory.1890 John Deere came out with the Riding Gang Plow. With six good horses on hills, or four good horses on level land, sixacres per day could be plowed. It was universally used for the nextthirty years. The Panic of 1893, touched off by a New Yorkstock-market crash, begins the worst depression of the 19th century. As business sags, competition among implement makers for decliningorders turns cutthroat.[http://www.antiquefarming.com/john-deere-history-2.html]
