a. Note:   Arrived in the US around 1904-1905. Owned a grocery store in Clairton, PA (the building has his name and the date - 1928 - worked into the brick on the front). Saw a picture of his future wife at her brother Steve's house and asked if he could marry her. She came over from Trieste (then a free city in Austria/Hungary) and married him.
  Registered for the draft in 1918 (WWI) on 12 Sep. Listed as a naturalized citizen. Resided at 15 E. Park Ave., Clairton, PA. Brown eyes and black hair, medium height and build.
  Listed as naturalized in 1913 (1920 Census), arrived in US in 1905. A cousin Milan Babic, age 31, who arrived in US in 1906, not naturalized, is shown living with the Babics.
  His father is said to have been a forester and he was also planning on being one. He left Austria/Hungary to avoid being drafted into the Austrian army.   Obituary from McKeesport Daily News (Feb 16, 1965):
 "Luka Babic, 81, retired grocer, died yesterday at his home, 323 Park Ave., Clairton. Friends will be received today from 7 to 10 p.m. and tomorrow and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. at the A. J. Bekavac Funeral Home, Clairton. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Serbian Orthodox Church of Clairton with the Rev. Dushan Klipa officiating. Burial will be in McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery. Mr. Babic, an area resident for 50 years, was a member of St. Mary's Church, St. George Lodge of Clairton and Clairton Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was the husband of the late Cvjeta Babic and leaves a daughter, Mrs. Sara Marrow of Pebble Beach, Calif., and three grandchildren."
