Note: He changed his surname from Yurkunas to York sometime after his marriage. From the Wilkes-Barre Record, Thursday, 25 March 1937, page 13: "William York, 38, former Kingston patrolman, died at 12:30 yesterday afternoon at the Naval Hospital, Castle Point, N. Y. He had been on leave from the West Side police department since January, 1936. Patrolman York, who served in the United States Navy during the World War, entered the hospital on February 1, 1936. He is survived by his wife and a son, William York, Jr.; his mother, Mrs. Mary York of Kingston, and by several sisters and one brother. His father died two years ago."
