6. Text:   1860 Census data lists Patrick and Theresa as having been born in Bavaria; subsequent census data for Theresa and the children list them as coming from Germany. In 1866, Bavaria was annexed by Germany -- it would have been inappropriate to continue to list "Bavaria" as their country of origin when it was no longer itself a country, but a state within the German Empire.
