 Rites Held Oct. 31
Services at Sweeney Chapel and Heath Creeek Conducted by Dr. Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Kate McLaughlin of Slater, widow of the late Henry N. ("Nim") McLaughlin, were held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, October 31, at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Conducted by Dr. Harvey Baker Smith, pastor of the First Christian church.
Mrs. Perry G. Storts, organist, played hymns as relatives and friends gathered for the service, and as they filed past the casket at the close. She also played "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden."
Dr. Smith read comforting passages of Scripture, and offered prayer. In his talk he spoke of the miracle and mystery of life, and man's need for the guidance and love of God as he faces the problems of everyday living. He spoke of the part a good wife and mother contributes in shaping the lives of her family and influencing them by her own faith and Christian living.
"In following Jesus," Dr. Smith said, "we find the peace of God that passeth all understanding. He said, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor: he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. This is the spirit of the creative purpose of the almighty God. We are thankful for the revelation of His goodness in the lives of the men and women we meet every day. He asks our best, so that at the end He will say, Blessed art thou, good and faithful servant."
Burial was at Heath Creek cemtery, five miles east and half a mile south of Marshall Junction. Pallbearers were Dennis David Duffer, Paul Jackson, Russell Riley, and two nephews of the deceased, George Fletcher and Mitchell McLaughlin. Dr. Smith conducted the graveside service.

c. Note:   N31 I can't remember being around my grandparents but a couple of times and I was very small. I do remember staying with a Uncle Lem (maybe Nim) and Aunt Kate for a day or two while my Mother worked. Uncle Lem let us, my brother and me, play in a pile of sand and made corn cob dolls and musical instruments for us. I can remember crying to go back, but we never did that I can remember.
