 L.M. Nelson McLaughlin Suffers Fatal Fall at Rock Quarry Near Gilliam, Saturday
  L.M. Nelson McLaughlin, well known resident of Slater, suffered fatal injuries in a fall from a scaffold at the rock quarry southeast of Gilliam, Saturday of last week. He fell a distance of about 20 feet, alighting on his head and right shoulder, and was at once hurried to the Fitzgibbon hospital in Marshall where death occurred late the same afternoon. Mr. McLaughlin was aged 39 years, 11 months and 7 days.
 The funeral services, which were conducted by Rev. Don Baker, of Marshall Junction, were held at the Heath Creek Baptist church, near Prairie Home, Tuesday afternoon, May 3rd at 2:30 o'clock and burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Mr. McLaughlin was a veteran of World War II and there was a full and very impressive military service at the grave.
 The deceased was born near Nelson, Missouri, the son of Henry and Katherine Ann McLaughlin.
 His father died here in Slater March 18th of this year and he leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Bessie McLaughlin, of the home; his mother, who is a patient in the state hospital in Fulton; one sister, Mrs. John W. Bailey of Marshall, and two sisters and one brother, William, all of whom live in California, the latter being here for the funeral.
 For some time past he had been employed as a truck driver at the rock quarry and was highly esteemed by his employers and with all of those with whom he had been associated. He had served in the Army about five years and had been living at 321 East Lincoln ever since shortly after being discharged from the service.

 Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 3, at 2:30 o'clock at the Heath Creek Baptist church near Ridge Prairie for L.M. Nelson McLaughlin, who passed away April 30 at Fitzgibbon hospital at the age of 39 years, 11 months and seven days. Rev. Don Baker, Baptist minister of Marshall Junction, officiated. Mrs. Grover Meeker accompanied James Renison who sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Lead Kindly Light" and "Beyond the Sunset."
 The lovely flowers were cared for by Gloria Miles, Marlee Wilbanks, Dorothy Smith and Doris Smith.
 L.M. Nelson McLaughlin, son of Henry Nim and Katherine Ann McLaughlin, was born near Nelson, May 23, 1915. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie McLaughlin, of the home, 321 East Lincoln, Slater, and his mother and sister, Mrs. John W. Bailey of Marshall and two sisters in California; a brother, William McLaughlin of California, who came for the service.
 Mr. McLaughlin was a World War II veteran and served in the armed forces about five years. He moved to Slater in 1949 and was employed as a truck driver at the rock quarry. He fell from a scaffold while working Saturday afternoon and was taken to the Fitzgibbon hospital where he died about 5:10 o'clock that afternoon. He was a well liked young man.
 Pallbearers were Estil Fritsch, Carroll Dooley, Curtis James, William Haynes, Harry Wallace, Joe Staton, Houston Johnson and Mack Duderstadt. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. The J.E. Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
 Military services were conducted at the graveside. Joe Sterrett was the bugler. Ten men of the American Legion participated.
c. Note:   N258 McLaughlin Rites To Be Tomorrow
 Rev. Don Baker Will Conduct Service at the Heath Creek Baptist Church
  L.M. McLaughlin, 39, of Slater, passed away Saturday evening at the Fitzgibbon Hospital. Mr. McLaughlin fell from a scaffolding at the rock quarry 4 miles southeast of Gilliam Saturday afternoon and was taken immediately to the hospital. Mr. McLaughlin was a truck driver employed by the rock quarry.
 Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Heath Creek Baptist church near Ridge Prairie. Rev. Don Baker, pastor of the New Salem Baptist church, will conduct the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body was taken from the J.E. Jones Funeral Home to the McLaughlin residence, 321 East Lincoln, at 1 o'clock this afternoon.
 Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie McLaughlin, and other relatives.
