a. Note:   William graduated from Pleasant Hill Academy, a Quaker-run boarding High School in Cumberland County, TN. He was an elementary grade teacher in Warren County, TN when he volunteered for the Navy and was stationed at the New Orleans Naval Training Center. He was discharged in January 1919.
 After World War I, William migrated to Little Rock, AR and later to Wichita, KS where he went to a truck and tractor school and became a district wholesale hardware salesman serving the oilfields and businesses in that part of Kansas and northern Oklahoma. William and his wife were married in the First Baptist Church in Wichita, KS. They lived in Ponca City, OK and Wichita, KS.
 In 1937, William returned to Warren County, TN and became a well known farmer and registered cattle breeder on his father's farm and adjoining land.
 He died there and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, McMinnville, Warren Co., TN.
