a. Note:   olk in Covington helped rear him. With the support of his uncle, Judge L. L. Bristow of Georgetown, he briefly attended Georgia Tech, but left before graduating. His technical bent led him to a hands on career in the rapidly growing electrical utility industries. For a time, he went from town to town in Oklahoma and elsewhere in the Great Plains, helping to set up local light and power companies. He also tried his hand at farming with notable lack of success. After his divorce and remarriage, he eventually settled in Sacramento, where he remained for the balance of his long life.
