His religion is listed as the Church of England, there is no mother in the family.(S2) The 1871 Weldford Parish census lists (George Thomas) as Thomas, age 9.(S3) The 1881 Southesk Pariah census lists (George Thomas) as George, age 18, born in NB of Irish origin, CofE, a laborer.(S4) The Northumberland County marriage register Vol. D, entry No. 7459, p-117, hand written states:" Thomas son of Thomas Mcafferty of Newcastle, Stonecutter bachelor andSusan daughter of John Colford of the same place Spinster were married bylicense in the Church of St. Andrew Newcastle in the County ofNorthumberland on this the tenth day of September in the year Onethousand Eight hundred five by me. This marriage was solemnized by H.S.Sweet Rector between Thomas McCafferty (his mark) Susan Colford (hermark) In the presence of William and Maggie"NOTE: The rector left eighty out of the year before the word five. Also thelast names of the witnesses can not be read.(S5) The 1900 U.S. census has Thomas and Susan with children, Mary, age 14, Elizabeth, age 12, Thomas, age 10, Alice, age 7, Dominic, age 6, and Bernard age 3, living in Indian Township No. 3. The have a boarder named Frank Ross. Mary is listed as born in Canada, while all of the other children were born in Maine. Thomas and Susan are listed as having immigrated from Canada in 1886 and are naturalized citizens. Thomas is working as a Stone Mason.(S6) The 1910 U.S. census has Thomas and Susan with children Dominick, age 16, Bernard, age 13, Sadie, age 11, Aggie, age 8, Elroy, age 5 and Edward age 2 living in Winn, ME, on the Lee Road. Thomas is a Stone Mason and lives on a farm that he owns free and clear. He is listed as self employed having immigrated from Canada in 1886 with his wife Susan. He can not read or write, but Susan can read and write.(S7) Vital Records, Death, Winn, Maine show that Thomas died on 9 June 1910, at East Winn, Maine of valvular heart disease.(S8) Information from Celia (McCafferty) Gray: P.O. Box 396 Hampden, Me 04444; 07 FEB 1997: In a letter from Celia, she advises she learned from the Town Clerk of Winn, ME, that George Thomas McCafferty, her grandfather, was a stonecutter working in Lincoln, ME, preparing a foundation for a new building. He was under the building placing supports and something slipped. a beam fell across his chest. According to the Town Clerk this information is on his death certificate.
