Union Advocate Newspaper August 9, 1898, notice of death (S1) Eliza Young is listed as a member of the Young family, age 31, born in New Brunswick, of the Church of England (CofE), a Housekeeper, and her relationship to the head of the household is not that of daughter, but as concubine. Also, listed in the family is Mary Catherine Young, age 11, daughter, born in New Brunswick, CofE. Baptismal records show Mary Catherine was born 28 March 1850, her mother as Eliza Young, no father is listed. The census records have the Young family in house # 47 and Thomas Mcaffery in house # 46. (S2) The 1871 census shows Eliza Young and Mary Catherine Young living in Thomas Mcaffery's home as wife and daughter of Thomas. A marriage record has not been found, but it is obvious Thomas and Eliza Young were married prior to the 1871 census, most probably where they lived in Weldford Parish. (S3&4) The 1881 and 1891 census have Thomas and Eliza, with family living in Southesk Parish, Northumberland County. (S5) The 1901 Southesk Census lists Thomas as being widowed and living in Derby Parish. Derby and Millerton are on the outskirts of Newcastle, NB. There was also an area called Bridgetown, in this same vicinity, which no longer exists. The area is now taken up by a paper mill. (S6) The August 9th, 1898 edition of the Union Advocate Newspaper states: "McCafferty, Mrs. Thomas, at Bridgetown, died 7 August age 61 yrs old." This is most probably Eliza (Young) McCafferty, although her age was probably 66 or 67.
