a. Note:   sted in the Army Air Force on 14 Dec 1939. His basic training was at Kelly Field in San Antonio, TX where he was trained in Airplane and Engine Mechanics. Became a Seargent and spent 30 months in Puerto Rico as a Military Policeman. He came back to the states for 18 months as a Transportation NCO at Camp Shelby, MS, where he supervised and directed 3 mechanics and 25 Drivers of a Service Company of an Infantry Regiment and was resposible for 46 vehicles. He was then shipped off to Europe and participated in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded and spent 3 months in a hospital in England. He Received his Combat Infantry Badge 15 Nov 1944 and was awarded an American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, EAME Campaign Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Service Stripes, 7 Overseas Service Bars. Purple Heart and ..... He received an Honorable Discharge on 16 Oct 1945.
 Worked as a sewing machine mechanic for 20 years, part with Sears, Roebuck Co. He bought some land near Elkins, AR where his sister Ruby Brown lived, and built a house and moved the family in June of 1965. He worked J.C. Penneys and Montgomery Ward until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, rockhounding, and gardening.
