Note: N3358 per Grandma E. Bertsch Tuccinardi, Grandma Rose Tuccinardi told her that Italian tradition is that for the first born son, he would be named after a grandfather, the second born son would be named after some other relative (JY- she didn't really know the exact order or who they were named after) and so on. Well, when Thomas E. was born, evidently he should have been named Gaetano but Grandma Rose didn't like the name so she convinced Grandpa Peter that Thomas was a version of Gaetano. And that is how he came to be named Thomas and not Gaetano. Tom, Sr. remembers that he and a friend would sneak out at night and drink some of Carlo's wine that he had in the back in a shed. Carlo Joseph had Tom, Sr. "guard" the wine because it had been disappearing and Tom, Sr. and his friend had a good time!! Carlo grew grapes in the back for his wine and he wouldn't share the wine with anyone but Aunt Emmy (Margaret Wanser). Tom, Sr. said that he died at a newstand. Barbershop was in the same building that he had the barbershop in Springfield. Carlo would sit in a chair on the upstairs closed in porch and spit- every once in awhile,Tom, Sr. would hear Carlo say, "Summa bitch" and wipe the window. Tom, Sr. and Vi Bertsch actually lived around the corner from each other growing up but didn't know each other till later. He lived on Hart Street He was cremated. The Collins Funeral Home is the one that took care of Grandpa. He was in the Army Signal Corp and was in Normandy, FR during D Day. Retired in 1975. graduated from Jamaica High School; attended Queens College; accepted into the army on 21 August 1941; graduated from the Eastern Signal Corps School at Fort Monmouth, NJ
