By 1930 Frances and Ruth Overfield divorced. In 1930, Ruth and the three sons lived in Gehring City, Scotts Bluff Co. NE, while Francis lived in a boardinghouse in Emporia, Lyon co. KS.

On 04 Dec 1931, the youngest son, Isaac Overfield, died from inflected leg burns.
Ruth (Shattuck) Overfield moved to Oregon, presumably with her sons, James and Robert and lived in Salem, OR. While James stayed in Salem, OR, Robert joined the Navy and was stationed in Concord, CA. Ruth later moved down to Concord to be near her son and grandchildren. Due to family conflicts she soon moved back to Salem, OR.
Ruth was a heavy smoke and had emphysema. She died 26 Mar. 1983, in Silverton, Marion Co. Oregon. and was buried in the Bethany Cemetery.
Bethany Pioneer Cemetery is located in the small town of Bethany, just west of Silverton, Marion Co. OR. It's bordered on the north side by Hazelgreen Road, on the south by Brush Creek Road, on the east by tall firs and by pasture on the south.
Bethany is a small community consisting of, besides the cemetery, a school and small grocery antique store. A church was organized in 1851, and eventually built near the cemetery but is no longer there. It probably moved into Silverton.
Ruth is buried in the same cemetery as her son and daughter in law,
