Note: with a teaching degree in 1935 and taught school in a one room schoolhouse in rural McLean County. She married Howard F. Stein in 1937. They had four children: David, 1941; Linda, 1943; James, 1946; and Marilea, 1947. James (Jimmy) died of diabetes complications on Oct. 31, 1989. Hazel passed away on Dec. 25, 1994 at BroMed Nursing Home after suffering a stroke several years earlier. She had worked for the Department of Public Aid in Illinois for most of her life, helping families who needed assistance.
