Note: NELLIE DIXSON: When Nellie was only a few years old her family moved from Charlotte, NC to the Clumbia, SC area where her father probably trained to become a farm agent. They returned about 1914. A few years after returning to Charlotte Nellie Mae married James Walter Russell 4/22/1918. They had only one child, son James Llewellyn, born 4/22/1920. They never owned a car so Nellie relied on brother William and "Aunt"Gertrude (a much younger sister of Nellie's mother, Ida Mae) to drive her and James L. around to visit family. She was a gifted seamstress and had many clients for whom she made clothes. Even during the Depression she made sure James got violin lessons. The whole family was still alive in 1930, including Immanuel and Ida Mae. Nellie lost her brother Claude and then her father. Then after WWII James L. moved to California with wife Catherine Kling. I believe her mother, Ida, died in the early fifties. Her brother Harold was badly injured in the War and was never the same, committing suicide. She kept his suicide note. Her husband James W., who was much older, died in 1954. She survived him by 24 years, dying in Md. in 1980 after breaking her hip at the home of her son, James, who had meanwhile moved from California first to Pa. and then to Germantown Md.
