Note: Philip Naylor was probably born in 1837. On 21 Dec 1866, Philip Naylor age 29, married Amanda Smith from Fairfax, Virginia. The couple lived on the family farm while Philip worked as a carpenter. John Naylor age 12 was living with the couple in 1870, it is not known how John and Philip are related. On the 3rd January 1870 the following news item appeared in the paper. "Phillip Naylor, a colored man, residing in this vicinity, was about starting out last Thursday for a hunt, when his gun was discharged, severely wounding himself in the arm." Desiring to work his own farm, Philip purchased 9 acres of land from his father for $50. The land was situated on the edge of Centreville Road near Yorkshire. On June 7, 1890 Philip's wife Amanda died due to "dropsy", she was 44. The following year Philip married Grace. It is not known if Philip had any children; he died intestate by March 16, 1903. His brother-in-law John Randolph administered the estate.
