Note: Death Certificate of Nora Thompson, sister of John W. Thompson, information given by Mrs. Henry Rogers , names Fanny Yours/Ewers as the mother. Record on file ; William Ewers( owned land in Oakley) Married Mary Shields 10 March 1879 Bexar co. Texas (by consent of mother Margret B. Ewers) Fact : Ewers surname found on old tombstone's in Barney Williams Cemetery (connected to family in Oakley) Grandma Ewers, spelling is correct, no given names or dates. Research so far ( May 14, 2000) on the name of Ewers in Texas, provides me with a little information. Aside from the above; I have 1850 Census Jackson Co. Texas; 216A-28 Albert Ewers age 30 Virginia John Ewers age 33 Virginia Margaret Ewers age 24 Missouri Francis age 3 Texas James R. age 1 Texas Marriage record found in Jackson Co. Texas; John J. Ewers married Margaret B. Sapp July 7, 1843, in Jackson Co. Texas. Research by Ed Starr, has connected the Ewers surname to the families he is researching; There were two Ewers families. One was that of Johathan Taylor Ewers, born 1848 in Virginia: He married Ida Eugenia Harnage in Gregg County, Texas . His wife was of Cherokee Blood and they had five children, Charles Emmett Ewers, John Taylor Ewers, Frank Ewers, Eloise Mayfield Ewers, and William Allen Harnage Ewers/ The other family was that of George Ewers born about 1830 who was also of Cherokee decent. He had two children , George Washington Ewers and Margaret Annie Ewers. Johathan Taylor Ewers and his wife were both buried in Martin Cemetery in Childers, Nowata Oklahoma. Ed's research and mind correspond at 2 points. Mixed Blood and Ewers originating out of Virginia. Indications at this point are that the Ewers family in Jackson Co. Texas, and Ed's two families are from the Virginia family of Ewers.
