Notes
a. Note:   Name also spelled Keehlyn & Kehlyn
Kehlyn (Keehln) Brewer was born in 1831 near the border line of what is now Davidson and Forsyth Co. NC. In most families, we find that sons are more often named for their fathers, grandfathers or others in the immediate family. I have searched through all the Brewer families I can find and have never found in any of them, the name "Kehlyn" or any variation of the spelling.
In December, 1818, a physician by the name of Christian David Keehln (1793-1859) arrived in Salem, (A Moravian settlement in NC) It may be possible that Kehlyn Brewer was named for Dr. Keehln who may have been the physician at the birth of Kehlyn. Although Kehlyn's parents, Henry and Elizabeth Boeckel Brewer (Bruer) are not known to have been Moravians, Kehlyn and at least 1 other child of Henry and Elizabeth was baptized in Friedberg Moravian Church located on the border line of Davidson and Forsyth County.
At age 18, Kehlyn Brewer was living with a family in Salem where he met and married his wife, Paulina Bowyer (Boyer). Kehlyn's wife, Paulina, is buried at Friedberg Moravian Church where at least 2 of her sons were members. Based on information in the diary of Friedberg Moravian Church, recorded in the "History of Moravians in NC", and the 1860 Census, Forsyth Co, NC, Kehlyn died between 1861 and 1866. Kehlyn, is listed in the 1860 census with Paulina and the children but he is not listed in the 1870 census. The 1870 Census Records lists Paulina with a son, John Ellis, born 1868 (2 yrs after Kehlyn died.) In an aricle in the "Records of Moravians in NC" Vol XII, taken from the Diary of Friedberg Moravian Church, a Committee Meeting of Friedberg, dated Feb 17, 1866, reported that some "unfavorable reports concerning Br. Jesse Knauss and Widow Bruer have been circulated." Since this entry in the diary was dated 1866, Paulina's husband, Kelian, died prior to Feb, 1866. Paulina's last son, John Ellis was born 1868 and could not be the son of Kelian. He could possibly be the son of Jesse Knauss or somone else
Since Kehlyn was not buried at Friedberg with his wife and no grave for him has been found, I believe it is possible and probable that he served and died in the Civil War. Records show his brother, Joseph Henry, served in the Civil War.
