In the "Records of Moravians in NC" Vol XII, there is an article stating that in a Committee Meeting of Friedberg, dated Feb 17, 1866, some "unfavorable reports concerning Br. Jesse Knauss and Widow Paulina Bruer have been circulated." Even if Jesse Knauss is not John's father, it is clear that he was not thek son of Kehlyn/
