Note: The Marriage License for Joseph Henry Brewer (Bruer) and his second wife, Sarah Reich Long, listed Joseph as Josiah. The Burial Records of Friedberg Moravian Church lists Sarah Bruer's spouse as Joseph. Joseph Henry Brewer has appeared in all the records beginning with 1850. Joseph Henry Brewer and Sarah Catherine Long, widow, were married in Friedberg Moravian Church, Davidson Co, NC. on February 23, 1874. The marriage license listed Joseph as "Josiah" but all records show his name was Joseph Henry. Copy of marriage license: "February 23, 1874, a marriage license was issued to JOSIAH BREWER, residing in Arcadia Township, Davidson Co, age 29, the son of HENRY and ELIZABETH BREWER, both dead, and SARAH Catherine LONG, age 36, daughter of PHILIP REICH, dead. Marriage performed February 26, 1874 at Friedberg by Rev. David Z. Smith, "Minister of the Moravian Church." Witnesses: R. E. Morgan, J. D. Pickel (Josiah's cousin) and _____ Pickel (cannot read first name)." Sarah Catherine Reich's first husband, Lewis W. Long, died in 1864 and is buried in Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyared, Davidson Co, NC. One year, 10 mos after she and Joseph were married, Sarah died in childbirth. The infant also died. Both are buried in Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyard. On her gravestone, her name & the infant's name is spelled BRUER. There is only 1 other grave in the Friedberg Graveyard that bears the name "BRUER". It is the grave of Paulina BRUER, wife of Joseph's brother, Kelian (Kehlyn). Records of the Civil War lists: "Joseph H Brewer Residence: Forsyth County, North Carolina Occupation: Farmer Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 11 June 1861 at the age of 22Enlisted in Company K, 21st Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 11 June 1861. POW on 07 July 1863 at Williamsport, MD (Estimated day) Confined on 10 July 1863 at Fort Delaware, DE (Estimated day) Confined on 15 October 1863 at Point Lookout, MD (Estimated day )Oath Allegiance on 12 October 1864 at Point Lookout, MD (Joined Co. A 4th VO Inf (USA)) Note from John Brewer, descendant of Joseph Henry Brewer: "Joseph Henry Brewer went into the civil war and was captured on his first scurmish. He went into the confederate army and came out with a discharge from the union army. He was a trustee in Fort Leaven Worth, Kansas." Joseph Henry's 3rd wife, Allie Hire Brewer, filed for his pension upon his death.
