Notes
a. Note:   n SA in 1846. They married in St Patricks Church, Adelaide in 1847. Neither could sign their names. Nor could their witnesses, John and Bridget Guerin. They lived around Morphett Vale and then Macclesfield SA, producing 9 children , before moving to Victoria Feb 1860. One child died in SA and two children died shortly after the move to Victoria. They settled at Golden Point - Faraday, not far from Chewton and Castlemaine on the Victorian goldfields. They had another 6 children in Victoria. The last child, born 1873, died at birth. James and his many sons were involved with mining. When Catherine died in 1888 James moved to the new goldfield of Hillgrove, near Armidale NSW, where several sons and their families lived and worked the mines. James died at Hillgrove in 1900.
 Nothing is yet known of the lives of James and Catherine before leaving Ireland but it is reasonable to assume that they were emigrating to escape the worsening conditions in Ireland at the time.
