a. Note:   n irish imigrant, at Castlemaine in 1875. They had 8 children. Dennis was a miner and labourer who lived at Golden Point, Grafton, Sydney, Melbourne and Grafton (again) before finally retiring in Sydney. The second son, John Leo, eventually moved to Kalgoorlie where he too worked mines in between being a grocer and railway chef. He was a chef on the Transcontinental Railway in 1920 for the Royal Visit which included a train trip from Perth to Adelaide via Kalgoorlie. His only son, John William, was born on the WA goldfields. Curiously one of John William's sons, the author, is a geologist - so it must run in the family!
