Ah, brightly their memries were keeping, As round their low earth beds we tread, There all that is mortal is sleeping, The sleep of the heroic dead. Joseph Rupe, 63, a veteran of the Civil War, died Friday morning after a lingering illness of several months from paralysis. He was born in Cheshire Twp, January 18, 1845 and died May 15, 1908. Age 63 yr, 3 mo, and 27 da. He was married to Miss Mary C Ralph, January 28, 1869. To this union were born three sons, Elza M and A Oscar of Eno, OH and Chester C now of Columbus, OH and one daughter, Mrs Bernice O Searls also of Eno, all of whom survive to mourn their loss. He also leaves six brothers and one sister: Jonathon Rupe, Cheshire Twp; Jacob Rupe, Cheshire Twp; William Rupe, Cheshire Twp, Perry Rupe, Cheshire Twp; Frank Rupe, Cheshire Twp; Washington Rupe, Missouri; Mrs Caroline Arnold, Cheshire Twp. Mr Rupe always took great pleasure in talking over old times and was always on hand at the soldiers reunion. G.A.R. Post of Kyger, OH of which Mr Rupe was an honored member, had charge of his burial, six of his old comrades acted as pallbearers. Fifteen old soldiers marched from his home to the cemetery and there paid their last respects to this departed comrade until they all meet at their final reunion. One by one those brave defenders of our flag and our nation are being thinned out. Peace be to their ashes. May their descendants always remeber with grateful hearts how they offered their lives as a sacrifice to their country and our country. Mr Rupe was laid to rest in the Robinson Cemetery by undertaker Floyd Ward of Bidwell, OH, amidst a profusion of beautiful flowers. Mrs Rupe and children wish to thank their neighbors and friends for their sympathy and kindness during the death and burial of their husband and father also for the beautiful flowers furnished and the kindness shown by the G.A.R.
