The subject of this sketch was born in East Virginia, June 1, 1809,emigrated to Ohio with his parents in 1812, settling in Gallia County, where he has since lived. He married Elizabeth Rothgeb May 12, 1837. They were the parents of eleven children, eight of whom with the aged companion and mother, survive him. He was stricken with paralysis one year ago, from which he never recovered, though he was up and around until a few weeks before his death. He professed faith in Christ in 1851, and united with the Second Kyger Free Will Baptist Church. He ever tried to live an upright, consistent Christian life, and his brethren feel that truly a strong pillar in the church has fallen. His funeral services were held at the church October 20th, which was largely attended, and his mortal remains were laid in the churchyard, (beside those who preceded him) in resurrection hope. Funeral services by Rev. W. J. Fulton. SEVEN SONS ON TUESDAY LAST Seven stalwart sons of the late Washinton Rupe of near Kyger, came to Middleport and had their photos taken by Hulbert, the photographer. They are: Jonathan aged 54; Joseph 51; Jacob 49; G W 45; William 41; D P 37; Frank 33. They are all strong hearty men, good citizens and a credit to any land. They are stalwart Republicans, as well as stalwart men, and everyone of them voted for McKinley. G W is Sheriff of Adair County, MO. The Father died at the age of 80 years. The Mother is still living near Kyger, aged 80 years. This is something unusual. (Have picture) The Gallipolis Bulletin Tuesday October 16, 1888 - Kyger Uncle Wash Rupe, living about one mile above the village, is suffering severely from the dropsy. His recovery is very doubtful. The Gallipolis Bulletin October 26, 1888 - Kyger Mr Rupe, of whom we spoke in our items a few weeks ago, died last Thursday night. His remains were interred in the cemetery at the Poplar Church, Saturday, Oct. 20. He had been battling against his fatal illness for several years, but when his Master said, "Come, "he laid down his armour like a hero.
