  Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Jont Rupe, of ? Kyger, were married 50 years ago, September 15,
so decided to celebrate their anniversary by inviting several of their
friends and relatives to their home Sunday September 17. The day was fine
and a very pleasant one for all present. Guests began to arrive about 9 A.M.
and kept it up until noon. About 12:30 all were invited to the long table
built on the lawn for the occasion where all did justice to the bountiful
repast set before them. It was a basket dinner and all decided it was one of
the finest ever spread on a picnic table. There were nineteen fine cakes and
other good things in proportion. One fine cake, "The bride's cake,"
presented by Mrs. Electa Park, of Parkersburg, a niece of Mrs. Rupe's, was a
large white cake made very fancy with icing of white with silver trimmings
and figures "1866-1916" on top. This cake, admired by all, was cut so that
each guest could have a piece. Eighty-four people ate from this bountiful
table and there was some left. The day was spent in greetings and pleasant
conversation and it was indeed a reunion of relatives and friends who had
 never all met together before.
In the afternoon we listened to an original poem by Mrs Melvin Boice.
This was also a birthday anniversary of their oldest child Mrs. Electa
Rowland of Columbus who is here for a few weeks visit. Mr. Jacob Swisher a
half brother of Mrs. Rupe who is 89 years old was the oldest guest present.
Four of Mr. Rupe's old comrades and members of the famous 53 Reg. O.V.I. who
marched with Shermon to the sea were present with their wives. Their were
Mr. and Mrs. J. Rupes, Moses Mathews and wife of Columbus, R. H. Rawlins and
wife of Rutland, Melvin Boice and wife a near neighbor, Ed Rife and wife of
Dexter and Mrs. John Holliday of Dexter, widow of another of another member
of the 53, other present were Rev. Laud Miller, wife and son Malcolm, Mr.
and Mrs. Perry Swisher, Mrs. Polly Rupe, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carman, Mr. and
Mrs. D. Irwin, Bidwell, Mr. and Mrs. Erman Swisher and son Ura, Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Snowden and children of Rutland, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gordon, E. E. Gordon
and wife, S. T. and wife, Mrs. Perry Rupe and children, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Samuel Swisher and son David, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Swisher and son Cearles

Cora, Cheshire, D. W. Briggs, wife and son Merrill, Cheshire, William
Reynolds and wife of Middleport, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rupe and sons.
I transcribed this from a zerox copy of an old newspaper clipping, that was
 very hard to read.
