Cal Rupe was blind so her husband had set up guide ropes for her to follow if she went out into the back yard (so she would not get lost). She died on January 7 and he died on January 8, had a combined funeral service. My Dad was helping to dig Cal's grave when someone came and told them to dig the second grave for William. WILLIAM RUPE William Rupe, 87, died 27 hours after his wife at his home one mile above Kyger, OH. The end came at 9:30 AM, Friday. (1943) Within a stone�s throw of where both had lived many years and where both died, stood the house in which Mr Rupe was born and reared. His birthdate was March 11, 1856 and Sarah�s was less than nine months later on November 3, 1856. Their married life covered a span of more than 66 years or since May 12, 1876, all of it having been spent within two or three miles of both their birthplaces. Both had been invalids for many years and Mrs Rupe had been blind for a quarter of a century. A double funeral will be held at the Eno Methodist Church with Rev. J F Brown officiating. Burial in Robinson Cemetery, Morgan Twp, Gallia Co, OH under the direction of J L Coleman and Son Funeral Home, Bidwell, OH. William Rupe was the last surviving child of Washington and Elizabeth Rothgeb Rupe. They are survived by these children: Ida Kennedy, Bidwell, OH, R#1; Iva Spires, Bidwell, OH, R#1; Lona Kennedy, Langsville, OH; and Clarence Rupe, Middleport, OH He had numerous relatives of the younger generation among these several nieces and nephews.
