 Nicknames: Hub, Herman, Pop. Hub was used by old friends, business associates, and close family members. The grandchildren and younger members of the family called him Pop. Mom called him Herman most of the time.

 Birth Date: There seems to be some question as to Pop's birth date. XL and Isla Stroud said that Pop and Mom always claimed that Pop was born August 27, 1894, however, on Pop's tombstone at Cross Plains the date August 19, 1893 is inscribed. Isla said that mom gave all the information to the Tombstone company. In the 1910 census Herman Stroud was listed as an eighteen year old in Caddo County, Oklahoma this would have put his birthdate in 1892. XL Stroud confirmed that Pop was working in his brothers cafe in Caddo County, Oklahoma, the year before his marriage. Seeking more information!!

 Holbert J, Stroud is listed in the 1900 census of Jack County,giving his birth date as August 1891 age 8. Justice Pct. 2, Supv.dist.#262, Sheet#8, Enum. Dist. #36, Page #74. Ten years later he was listed as eighteen in the Caddo County Census. This is strong evidence that pop was born in August 1891. This would have made Pop twenty years old when he married thirteen year old Mom. Mom always told me that she was fourteen and Pop eighteen when they got married, therein may lie a tale. Any information please.

 While on a grave hunting expedition, I found the graves of Sim and Sally Poteet at Chico, Texas. Sim and Sally were life long friends of Pop and Mom's.
 Inscription was:
 F. A. (Sim) Poteet May 31, 1892 December 18, 1976 Sally Poteet July 16, 1897 March 11, 1985 Married August 29, 1916 Sally was like a second grandmother to me. jrs
