Note: ***********NOTE ONE********** BIOGRAPHICAL AND ANECDOTAL MATERIAL : Grandson of John Knox Stroud and Bathsheba Lee King. Harrold Hulbert Stroud was the twin of Harrald. They were bron in the seventh month. Premature babies weighing a little over a pound apiece. The young doctor in Jacksboro constructed a new fangled machine he had read about, in a magzine it was called an incubator. He made it out of a shoe box and was able to place both babies in the shoe box they were so small. For heat the incubator was placed on the open oven door of Mom's coal burning stove. They had to use oxygen brought from the quarry. Harrald died of lung conchestion and complications January 17, 1920. Harrold lived until 1961. survived by a loving wife, one daughter, one son, five grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. One daughter Mickey Ann Stroud passed on in 1983. Harrold B. Stroud, #RA621821, served in The U.S. Army for twenty years. Was wounded in the left shoulder while serving in France in 1944. there was a scar in front and back. The bullet penetrated all the way through. Harrold said that he raised up out of his foxhole and saw a German aiming a rifle at him and before he could react he was hit in the left shoulder. In 1957 he told his brother X.L. Stroud and myself Jimmie Stroud that he could still see the mans face that shot him. After recovering from the wound he visited XL Stroud in Ockim, Germany. XL had heard from some friends that Harrold had been killed, so it was a joyful reunion. Campaigns: ETO-1943-45, Korea-1953-54, Japan-1954-55. Was out of the army for two years after WWII. Received Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman badge. Retired November 1960 as Sergent First Class (E-6) at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Moved his Family June 1961 to Kerrville, Texas to work for the Veterans Hospital. *********END NOTE ONE************* *********NOTE TWO********** Attended Tahoka High School, Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas. Received GED in U.S. Army Occupations: Field Artillery Survey Instrument Operator, US Army. X-ray therapist, X-ray diagnostic technician, US Army. Instrument operator in Survey party. CHURCH AFFILIATIONS: Ordained Baptist Minister. Officiated at Womble Missionary Baptist Church, El Paso, Texas. Cause of his death was coronary thrombosis . He had the attack while swimming about 50 feet offshore in Kerrville City Lake and died at the emergency room at Veterans Hospital in Kerrville, Texas where he worked . Was in the military service from 1937 to 1960 . He was a Master Sergeant, Field Artillery , Medical Corp., X-Ray technician .
