I have been unable to find any information about John Knox's parents, matter of fact I know very little about Doc at all. Here is a list of what I do know:
  1.He had two wives--Basha King(1872-1902) and Imogene Cogburn(1904-1914)
2.The 1880 U.S. census shows John age28, Betheshaba age 24 and Henry Stroud age 3 were in Wittich, Franklin County, Arkansas.
3.The 1900 U.S. census shows that John K. age48, Bathsheba L. age 43, Henery H. age 22, Hattie M. age 16, Viola age 13, Holbert J. age 5 lived in Jack County, Texas. On thecensus forms notice the difference in the spelling of Bathshaba's name on the two census and the initial " K." in John's name could be an " S." XL and Guy Stroud both said that their daddy's middle name was Knox but i will have to always check the two initials and both variations of Basha's name in the searches.

 ************NOTE THREE****************
  FOR YOUR GENERAL INFORMATION:
ORIGIN OF THE NAME STROUD Until the Thirteenth Century sur names were not in general use. A man was know only by his given name, such as John, James, or Mark. To designate any particular John you would have to speak of him as John the Baker, William the Gold Smith, James of Stafford. Occupation, residence, or some locality would be used to fix the identity of the person spoken of. Persons belonging to the nobility were indicated by the name of their Estate, Castle, etc, ie: Sir John of Castle Wynham. Thus we are able to trace those belonging to the nobility to a more remote period. On the origins of the name Stroud I have arrived at the following. The name is of Saxon origin. "Strogd" being the original. This was the way of spelling the name in the Tenth Century, this being the first mention of the name found so far. Its spelling transition from the original was, Strod, Strwde, Strode, Stroud. Modern variations in the last century has been Strowd,Stroude, and Strode.
In English History the first record we have is in 1304. At this date the place
now know as Stroud, in Glostershire, was made a Parish and from that date,
births, marriages and deaths were recorded at this place.
The original composition of the founding of this town is written in Latin, and is referred to as "Habitatores Capellae Strode," literally translated being, "the inhabitants of the Chapelry of Stroud."
However there was a Castle Strode in Scotland before the founding of the town of Stroud, which leads to the belief by some that the family first lived in
Scotland. To date I have only found this one reference to a Scottish connection.
There was a Lord of Strode--Strode being the name of a Manor. Alan del Strode, Lord of Lyham, was high sheriff of Northumberland in 1354 and warden of the border. His son Alan was also high sheriff and warden of the border of the Castle of Roxburgh. His son William, lived at Castle Strode in Glendale.
According to my studies there is a considerable body of information about the
Strouds in England which I hope to get further into time permitting. JR Stroud 1994
