 "It is said Jesse Franklin Cearley had a crippled foot or leg. Some think he probably had polio at some time. Others thought it might have been a club-foot from the way older folks talked about it. He died before any of the children married and none of the grandchildren knew him. Dora never remarried, their little corner of Wise County was called Cearley Community."

 "Jesse Frank was born in 1853. He met Dora Carpenter, a schoolteacher, and in 1881 they were married. Dora was born in 1860 in Bates County, Missouri, to C.C. Carpenter and Mary Forrest Carpenter, a relation of General Nathan Bedford Forest. After the death of her mother, when Dora was six years of age, her half-sister Emily Clark brought her to Texas. Dora Carpenter moved to Wise County in 1876 and began a career as a teacher. After their marriage the couple bought land located in the Cearley Community, across the creek from John W. Cearley who had bought his land from H.T. Mahaffy.
 The children of Jesse Frank and Dora Carpenter Cearley were Oran R., who married Agnes Hill; Forrest, who married Sallie Greene; Cary, who married May Green; Jessie, who married Bart Foster; Glen, who married Alice Smiley, and Jewel, who married Herman (Hub) Stroud. Jesse Frank Cearley died in 1899, and Dora Carpenter Cearley died in 1927. They are buried in the Chico Cemetery, Wise County, Texas."
