Left Poznon, Prussia in 1880 with wife Petronella and 2 daughters Rose and Ida. They settled in Brooklyn, New York. He purchased sight unseen from a realtor 80 acres of timberland in Strickland, Wisconsin and settled there in 1892. Michael built a log house on his farm. He spent many years clearing the 80 acres for farming. For outside income he worked for the Weyerhauser Lumber Co. for $1 per day. They lived on the farm for 40 years and raised 9 children. Sophie died at age 16 in 1918.
