a. Note:   Leonard was the vocalist with accompanist Lilah Nordland (later his wife) on the first official broadcast of radio station WDGY in Minneapolis, MN, on 13 Jan 1924, when it went on the air from the porch of Dr. George Young's home in Minneapolis. Leonard and Lilah were high school students at the time. The program included "From the Land of the Sky Blue Waters," " Gypsy Love Song," and "Out Where the West Begins."
  Leonard worked for Sears, Roebuck & Company in Minneapolis and Chicago as a buyer of major appliances, and in 1940 changed to being a purchasing agent for the Florence Stove Company at their Kankakee, IL, plant and later at their Gardner, MS, main office. In 1946 he opened his own retail hardware store in Champlin, MN (Bucklin Hardware & Variety). Although initially successful the business suffered from the increasing inroads of the large chains of retail stores and the store was closed about 1952. In 1951 he started work for the G. H. Tennant Company, in Minneapolis, MN, as an administrative assistant, where he worked until his death
  Cause of death: arteriosclerotic heart disease; a stroke and quick death about 6 PM after finishing a round of the golf that he loved.
