Notes
a. Note:   Zelotes Purdy Ogilvie was born in 1866 in McCracken Co. Kentucky. He engaged in carpentry like his father before him. He lived in Bandana, Kentucky, Ballard Co. From there he moved to Massac Co. Illinois. He worked for Jacob T. Miller. This is where he met Amanda Emily Miller and married her December 21, 1887. They apparently moved to Pulaski Co. Illinois sometime shortly after their marriage where there first three children were born. Eva b. 1888; Louis b. 1889; and Ben b. 1891 then back to Massac Co. They are listed in the 1900 Massac Co. Illinois Census Records living in Hillerman. They apparently moved back before children Fred b. 1895; Lannes b. 1898 and Nellie b. 1900 were born. My Grandmother Nellie Elizabeth remembers looking across the Ohio River into Kentucky and seeing the smoke stacks at the power plant. I believe they moved around 1904 to Charleston, MO, Mississippi Co. They are in the 1910 Census there. Other Ogilvie's moved to Charleston as well and several are buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston. According to Uncle Paul Sutton, Zelotes went to work building a school house in Charleston, MO and later moved his family there. He attended a preaching school at Marble Hill, MO and was ordained a Baptist Evangelist Preacher by the First Baptist Church in Charleston, MO. (approx. 1908-1910) He traveled widely in his preaching; once preaching at Independence or Lamar, MO where the Truman family attended. He went home for Sunday dinner with Harry Truman's parents at that time. He went to work as a carpenter in Michigan. He died in Ann Arbor Michigan, but was buried in Charleston MO in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. It was said that he had cancer of the liver. Amanda moved back to Bertrand (near Charleston, MO). She married a man by the last name of Case but the were together only briefly. Sometime thereafter she lived with her daughter Eva Steinbeck, whom she lived with until her death.
