a. Note:   Some have her birth to be in 1877, which is incorrect because she is not listed in the 1880 census with her parents. Also the R B Hayes Index says that she was 76 at the time of her death. So that would be consistant with her birth being in 1881. Emma spoke German fluently. One day I hope to be able to trace the Leffler line back to their German roots. I know very little of her grandfather Samuel, just that he was "PA Dutch", a term Pennsylvanians used for the German speaking immigrants which settled there.
