Notes
a. Note:   Samuel and his family moved from Perry County, PA to Martinsburg, WV in 1878. They moved to Iowa in 1898 where his oldest sons had already relocated. Samuel Oiler had a vineyard SW of Leon after he moved from W.VA to Decatur Co, IA. Neighbors came to share the grapes so long as they ate them as they picked them & didn't spit out the skins on the ground. He said the area of his vineyard near Slip Bluff County Park near Davis City, IA, was the prettiest place around and it reminded him of the hills in PA and WV.
Samuel A. and his wife are buried at the Leon Cemetery next to 2 sons, Frank Irwin and Samuel Sylvester. Samuel A. has a GAR marker at his tombstone.
