BK H - P. 268 - Oliver H. Bishop bought from Andrew Newlin and wife Mary, April 13, 1853 - 36 1/4 acres for $150. Oliver H. Bishop and Zelpha purchased 36 acres for the sum of $300, dated September 30, 1859. Oliver H. Bishop sold 41+ acres October 1, 1861 Oliver H. Bishop sold pt. Lot 8 and s16 t8 r11 for sum of $650 January 24, 1862. O. H. Bishop sold 44 acres for sum of $320 February 27, 1867. Oliver Hazard Bishop enlisted October 5, 1861 in the 30th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, Company D. He re-enlisted as a Veteran on January 1, 1864 in Vicksburg, Mississippi and was mustered in January 24 of that year. He was mustered out July 17, 1865. He was promoted from private to corporal December 1, 1864 and was promoted to sergeant April 1, 1865. April 1, 1865 was the same day that his son William H. Bishop died from disease incurred during his own service in the Civil War. The 30th Illinois Infantry saw action in various places in the south during the Civil War.
