a. Note:   Thomas Olmsted, a carpenter aged 32, appears in the 1850 US census at Somerset, Niagara Co., NY along with his wife, 31, and their three children, Lurancy, 5, Philander, 3, and Franklin, 1. Also living with them were Lucinda Stearns, 22, (Irene's sister) and Henry Gladhill, 18, apparently an apprentice carpenter. Two years later, the year his father died, the family moved to La Salle, Illinois, where Thomas began a carriage manufacturing business later continued by his son Franklin as the
 Franklin Carriage Co. on Second Street between Wright and Gooding Streets in La Salle. After his retirement, he and his wife lived with several of their children. Some eight years after his wife had passed away, Thomas died in Chicago where his son
 Adelbert lived and practised dentistry.
