Most of the information I have for Orange Martin was gathered from his Civil War pension application file, obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration. I have supplemented that information with census information.
He served in Company D of the 113th Regiment of the United States Colored Infantry, having enlisted in Little Rock, AR on 20 March 1864 as a private. Prior to that time, he was a farmer. He was honorably discharged from the USCT at Duvalls Bluff, Prairie County, AR on 9 Apr 1866.
His Declaration for Pension, dated 27 Jun 1921, gives his year of birth as 1843 in Franklin Co., AR and says month and day of birth are unknown. However, the 1900 census says he was born in Feb 1838.
On the Declaration are notes indicating that on that date, Orange Martin was completely blind in his left eye, partially blind in the right and partially deaf. Also noted is that he had hardening of the arteries and high blood pressure, anemia and interstial nephritis.
At the time of his death on 10 Jan 1928 in Tulsa, OK, Orange Martin was receiving a pension check in the amount of $90 per month for his service in the Civil War. His last known address, according to the records from the Department of Interior, Bureau of Pensions, was 501 E Oklahoma Place, Tulsa, OK.
