State of Texas Land Patent Sept. 15, 1859. John was privately tutored. When he came of age he went to the court in order to become guardian of his siblings. His wife's family lived on the next farm over, their marriage was conducted by a neighbor who was a methodist minister. They lived in the "Blue Branch area. The value of their estate was $1600. Enlisted in the Texas State Troopers at age 29. He was in the same unit with his brother James P. who had joined at age 16. John died in a Confederate Hospital, he had served 10 months before dying of Typhoid fever. His wife remarried in 1865. She later deeded the Watson land to Mollie and Pascal. Son Willis is not found after the census of 1880. He is living with his Aunt Elizabeth and her family and sister Mollie in Burleson.
