Note: a Stassen of Rittergut Holzheim and learned like his father the tanning business. After his marriage he continued to maintain the leather business for a while moving to the wife's gut in Esch (see note a). With tough resolve and diligence he worked his way up. He farmed about 125 morgen in Esch and later leased a gut in Hasselbach/Westerwald with an additional 120 morgen. The children alternated running the gut in Esch under his supervision while he moved to Hasselbach where he remained except for a two year interruption. At first there Franz also operated a mill which he soon leased out. Later Franz acquired a mansion in Unkel in which he spent his remaining years. note a: the gut originally belonged to a family Ottenheim whose original namesake was in 1612 was a "thumb (= dom) halfen and schulthei� to Esch and Oberb�llesheim. The last of the family, Gertrud Ottenheim, oo Johann Wilhelm Brauweiler. The married couple had no children so the property went to the niece, Clara Oepen (Thelen).
