Notes
a. Note:   Capt John Phillips came to Easton from Weymouth about 1694 with William Manley. He was a prominent man in the early town history and
was the first town clerk, serving 12 years in that capacity. He was
the first Captain that bore a commission in the town of Easton, and
was a soldier as early as 1690, serving in the Expedition against
Quebec. Forty years afterwards the Colony granted the Township of
Huntstown (now Ashfield) to the soldiers, and Captain Phillips had
some shares. His son Thomas, and son-in-law Richard Ellis of Easton,
were the first settlers of that town.
